Nothing is Wasted
Share
Have you ever looked back over your life and wondered, "Why did I have to go through that?"
Perhaps it was a difficult relationship. A career disappointment or a door that closed when you were sure it was supposed to open. A season of waiting that seemed to last much longer than you expected.
Maybe you're looking at where you are today and wondering if any of it had a purpose. I've learned to believe that nothing is wasted in God's hands.
The experiences we wish we could erase can become the very experiences God uses to prepare us for where we're going. The lessons we learned through disappointment can give us wisdom. The seasons that stretched us can build our strength. The doors that closed can redirect us toward something we couldn't see at the time.
Sometimes we are so focused on what didn't happen that we miss what God was developing in us while we were waiting. God has a plan for your life. And His plan doesn't always unfold according to our timeline. We want things to happen now. We want the answer, the opportunity, the relationship, the promotion, the breakthrough. We want to know what is next and when it's going to happen.
But God's timing is not our timing. I've had to learn that sometimes a delay isn't a denial. Sometimes it is preparation. God may be preparing you before He releases what you've been praying for. He may be developing your character, strengthening your faith, expanding your capacity, or allowing you to learn lessons that you'll need for the next season of your life.
And here's the part that gives me hope: Our God is a God of multiplication.
He can take the pieces of your story that you thought were wasted and use them in ways you never imagined. He can take one experience and turn it into wisdom that impacts hundreds of people. He can take a closed door and use it to redirect you toward an opportunity that is far greater than what you originally envisioned. What you thought was the end may have simply been preparation for the beginning of something new.
That's why I don't believe you should be ashamed of your story. Every chapter has taught you something. Every disappointment has given you an opportunity to grow. Every season has contributed to who you are becoming. Even the parts of your story you don't understand yet may eventually make sense when you look back.
And when God is ready to move, things can happen quickly. The doors that are meant for you will open. The people you are destined to meet will appear. The opportunities aligned with your purpose will find you. And what is destined for you will not miss you.
You don't have to force every door open. You don't have to chase every opportunity. You don't have to convince people to recognize your value. Sometimes your assignment is simply to prepare, trust, and remain faithful.
Because while you may not see what God is doing, that doesn't mean He's not working. There are things happening behind the scenes that you may not have the capacity to see yet. And one day, you may look back at this very season and say, "Now I understand why I had to wait."
What if the thing you're calling a setback is actually preparation? What if the delay is creating the capacity you need for the next level? What if the experiences you thought were wasted are actually part of the testimony, you're going to share one day?
I don't know what you're waiting on today, but I want to remind you of something:
Your life is not happening by accident. God has a plan for you. Your story is still being written. And nothing you've experienced is wasted when you place it in His hands. So don't give up because it hasn't happened yet. Don't assume you've missed your opportunity. Don't compare your timeline to someone else's. Trust the process and most importantly, trust God.
Because when He opens the door, you'll realize that He wasn't making you wait to punish you.
He was preparing you for what was coming next.
Reflection
What part of your story have you considered wasted that God may be preparing to use for something greater?
Maybe this is your season to stop looking backward with regret and start looking forward with expectation.
What's coming next may be greater than anything you could have imagined. 💜
